Welcome to downtown Ellensburg and the home page of the Ellensburg Downtown Association. Thanks to all of our members, supporters, friends and volunteers for your support for the EDA and our efforts.
The Ellensburg Downtown Association is an accredited National Main Street Program using the comprehensive preservation- based Main Street downtown revitalization program to help revitalize Ellensburg’s historic downtown so that it is once again a lively place where people can meet, eat, shop, work, and live.
Downtown Ellensburg is rich with history and heritage. Most of Ellensburg’s downtown was destroyed during the fire of July 4, 1889, and was rebuilt in brick. Today, many of the brick buildings erected in 1889 after the fire are still intact, and are being restored to their original grandeur. On July 1, 1977, Ellensburg’s downtown was designated a National Historic District, and provides an important example of Western pioneer architecture.
Located in the center of Washington State and just blocks from Central Washington University, downtown is home to a wide selection of unique, locally owned shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants, some more than a century old.
Downtown Ellensburg is also the location for numerous community events and celebrations including the Ellensburg Film Festival, Jazz in The Valley, Winter Hop Brew Fest, the Kittitas County Farmers Market, Dachshunds on Parade, First Friday Art Walk, Spirit of the West Cowboy Gathering, and Paint Ellensburg.
We’re excited about all the great changes happening in downtown Ellensburg and hope that you’ll check back often. You can also follow us on facebook, myspace, and twitter.
